Purchase Process
GM’s Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC) function provided foundation level training to its global personnel. This training covered key processes and their related policies, tools and templates.
GPSC wanted to move beyond comprehension to allow buyers and supplier quality engineers to utilize processes such as initiation of sourcing, PPAP, post-sourcing, and business plan improvement in a safe and controlled environment.
i3Logic designed and developed three proficiency level web-based simulations. The simulations were based on a fictional OEM; complete with a website, supplier info webpage, policies, processes, products, and tools. Much of the information was based on GPSC’s policies, processes, and tools. We also created fictitious suppliers with websites that could be accessed through the course. The supplier info webpage linked to a database of documents, emails and work instructions.
A GPSC buyer or supplier quality engineer is presented with four scenarios in each course that require the learner to make a series of decisions based on their knowledge of the process and analysis using the appropriate tools. Throughout the scenarios, the learner receives voice mails, emails, and news alerts that may or may not be relevant to the scenario; requiring the learner to decide what is relevant and what should be filed away. The learner is challenged to follow the process and use the documents and information provided to make the best decision for the organization.
Learners are encouraged to talk to their supervisors if they have questions about processes and tools. They are also allowed to retake each scenario until they reach a proficiency level of 80%. Each time they retake the scenario, elements of the course are randomized to provide a slightly different experience.
